General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) will officially unveil its new YFQ-42A combat drone at the International Fighter Conference in Rome, from November 4th to 6th.
The company, which will be the main partner of the event, aims to highlight its advancements in autonomous flight and integration between manned and unmanned aircraft, focusing on strengthening allied airpower and modernizing military forces.
The YFQ-42A, considered a milestone in autonomous combat aviation, made its first flight in August and is already in regular operation. General Atomics plans to deliver a production representative model to the United States Air Force by mid-2025. This new drone is part of the U.S. strategy to develop collaborative aircraft capable of working alongside manned fighters and other aerial systems.
With more than 1,300 combat drones delivered since 1992 and over 9 million flight hours accumulated, GA-ASI solidifies its position as a leader in the field. Among its most well-known platforms are the Predator, Reaper, and MQ-20 Avenger, the latter being used as a testbed for new autonomy technologies. During the conference, the company will showcase a full-scale model of the YFQ-42A and is expected to announce further updates on its development programs.
